Men’s Basketball Leads Wire To Wire In Victory Over Muskingum
ALLIANCE, Ohio - - Sophomore Stevie Griffin (Canton/Massillon Jackson) and freshman Kyle Scelza (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) each scored 14 points as Mount Union's men's basketball team defeated Muskingum 91-69 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday evening in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
With the win, Mount Union improves to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in the OAC, while Muskingum falls to 1-15 and 0-9 in the conference.
Senior Matt Kiger (Williamstown, W. Va. /Williamstown) and sophomore Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) each scored 12 points and freshman Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) added 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Raiders.
The Purple Raiders would never trail in the game.
Christian Keller and Logan Kimble each had 14 points to lead the Muskies.
Senior Justen Little (Galion/Galion) hit a jumper as he scored the game's first basket for the Raiders at the 19:43 mark of the first half.
Scelza would give the Raiders their biggest lead of the first half 25 points, as he hit his third three-pointer with 37 seconds left in the opening period, and the Raiders would take a 52-27 lead into the locker room.
Scelza would make two free-throws with 4:22 to go in the game to give the Raiders their largest lead of the game 32 points at 86-54.
Freshman Evan Keeslar (Uniontown/Green) made the last basket of the game, as he hit a jumper with 43 seconds left and the Raiders would go on for the 91-69 victory.
The Raiders are back in action when they travel to Heidelberg for a conference game at 3:00 pm.
