GAME PREVIEW- Men's Basketball Looks For Sweep Against John Carroll Wednesday

Mount Union's men's basketball team (7-10, 5-5 OAC) returns home to host John Carroll (8-8, 5-5 OAC) in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

THE SERIES

This will be the 76th meeting between the two schools with John Carroll holding a 39-36 advantage in the all-time series. 

In the matchup earlier this season, Mount Union won at John Carroll 92-76

Prior to this seasons road victory at John Carroll, the last time the Purple Raiders had won at the DeCarlo Varsity Center was January 6, 2008 which was a 70-65 victory.  

The last time the Raiders swept the regular seasons series against the Blue Streaks, was during the 2000-2001 season where the Raiders won 70-69 in Alliance and 54-53 at John Carroll.  

MOUNT UNION

The Purple Raiders are coming off an 89-75 victory at Heidelberg Saturday. 

Freshman Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Raiders.  

This was the second consecutive year that the Raiders have swept the Student Princes as last year the Raiders won both matchups, 67-49 at home and 91-89 (OT) at Heidelberg.

 COACH

Mike Fuline (Kent State '98) is in his second season as head coach at Mount Union and has compiled a 18-25 overall record as head coach of the Purple Raiders.  Prior to becoming head coach of the Raiders, Fuline had a successful coaching career at the high school level that included winning the 2010 OHSAA Division I State Championship at Massillon Jackson.  Prior to coaching at Massillon, he was the head coach at Rootstown high school (2003-2005). At Rootstown, his 2003-04 team posted a 16-6 record and won a sectional championship while his 2004-05 team went 20-4, shared the league title and won a district championship. Fuline was named 2004 Ohio's Division III Co-Coach of the Year.

JOHN CARROLL

The Blue Streaks come into Wednesday's game on a two-game win streak with victories over Otterbein (60-52) and Ohio Northern (78-75), both of which were at home. 

Last season, the Blue Streaks finished the season with an 18-7 overall record and went 13-5 in conference play, earning the number one seed in the OAC tournament, advancing to the semi-finals, but lost to Wilmington 79-74

COACH

Mike Moran (Xavier '73) is in his 21st year as head coach at John Carroll and has compiled a 374-194 record as head coach of the Blue Streaks. In 20 years of basketball under Moran, the Blue Streaks have won 10 Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championships (1994, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012), three OAC Tournament championships (2003, 2004, 2009) and have appeared in the NCAA Division III playoffs on 10 occasions (1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2010). In nine different years, his teams have posted at least 20 wins.
