Mount Union's Mike Fuline to Speak Monday at Hall of Fame Luncheon Club in Canton

Mount Union head men's basketball coach Mike Fuline will speak Monday, Jan. 28 at the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club in Canton, Ohio. 

The famed luncheon club, in its landmark 50th season, continues to be held at Tozzi's on 12th, 4210 12th St. NW, Canton. Lunch is served starting at 11 a.m., with the program beginning at 12:10 p.m., concluding at 1 p.m.

Fuline is in his second season as men's head basketball coach at Mount Union and had his team tied for fourth place in the OAC (6-5 in the conference and 8-10 overall) going into the weekend game against first place Capital.

Last year Fuline led the Purple Raiders to an 11-15 record overall and a 7-11 record in Ohio Athletic Conference play. Mount Union put together three three-game winning streaks during a season that ended with a loss in the first round of the OAC Tournament.

Fuline came to Mount Union after spending eight years as a head coach at Massillon Jackson(2005-11) and Rootstown (2003-05) high schools.

He was 95-42 (.693) in six years at Jackson, with a 76-19 (.800) mark over his final four seasons that included winning the 2010 OHSAA Division I State championship. The Polar Bears won Federal League titles in each of his last two seasons and he was named Federal League Coach of the Year both years.

At Rootstown, his 2003-04 team posted a 16-6 record and won a sectional championship while his 2004-05 team went 20-4, shared the league title and won a district championship.

Fuline was named 2004 Ohio's Division III Co-Coach of the Year.

Fuline began his coaching career with assistant coaching stints at Ravenna and Green high schools.

A graduate of Akron Manchester High School, he holds a bachelor's degree from Kent State University and a master's degree from Walsh University.

He and his wife, Amy, are the proud parents of five children.

  • Debbie Moore, Associate Commissioner of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, Feb. 25
  • Lee Owens, head football coach at Ashland University, March 4
  • Terry Bowden, head football coach at the University of Akron, March 18
  • Urban Meyer , head football coach at The Ohio State University, March 25
  • Joel Nielson, athletic director at Kent State University, April 1.

The club's annual meeting and election of officers will be held April 8, the same day The Repository East-West All-Star Football Game Coaches will share the podium.

The club continues to provide all members of the U. S. Armed Forces home on leave and in uniform free weekly admissions. The club meets on Mondays from now through mid-May of 2013, when the annual golf outing and dinner conclude the season's sessions.
