AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union forward Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) was named Ohio Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year as part of the All-OAC Men's Basketball Teams selected by the head coaches.
It marks the second straight year that a Purple Raiders earned the award as current sophomore Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) won the award last year.
Jacubec was an All-OAC Second Team selection this year while fellow sophomore Stevie Griffin (Massillon/Jackson) is an All-OAC Honorable Mention selection.
Ruffin has played in 25 games with 12 starts and averages 9.6 points and a team-high 5.6 rebounds per game. He leads the team and is among the conference leaders in blocks per game (1.6). He has 11 double figure scoring and two double digit rebound performances this season higlighted by 20 point efforts at Marietta (1/9/13) and at Hiram (11/24/12).
Jacubec has started 24 games this season and leads the Raiders in scoring (15.3 ppg), assists (2.4) and steals (1.3). He leads the conference with 69 made three-pointers and is with the conference leaders in minutes played at 32 minutes per game. He has scored in double figures 21 times this season including matching his career-high with 24 points at Ohio Northern (2/9/13).
Griffin has played in 18 games with 16 starts and is second on the team in scoring at 12.2 points per game. He has scored in double figures in 12 games this season including a career-best 25 points at Wilmington (1/12/13).
