Men's Basketball Travels to Rochester N.Y. for Holiday Inn Airport Tournament Saturday and Sunday

Mount Union's men's basketball team travels to Rochester, N.Y. to take part in the weekend Holiday Inn Airport Tournament hosted by the University of Rochester on Saturday, November 30 and Sunday December 1. The Purple Raiders take on Hartwick (N.Y.) at 6:00 p.m. Saturday to start the tournament.

The Purple Raiders enter the matchup with a 1-1 record with a win at Pitt-Greensburg (Nov. 16) and a loss at Bethany (W.Va.) (Nov. 19). Hartwick (N.Y.) enters with a 3-2 record with a win on Tuesday, November 26 at Union College 76-65. Clarkson (N.Y.) enters the tournament on a three game winning-streak with a win on Saturday, November 23 against Potsdam 78-62 as the host, Rochester (N.Y.) enters with a record of 1-3 with a loss at Nazareth (N.Y.) on Saturday, November 23 94-84.

Mount Union hosts John Carroll in the conference opener and home opener at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4 in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Mount Union Falls to Bethany (W.Va.) 79-61 - Boxscore
The Purple Raiders dropped a non-conference game at Bethany, W.Va. on Tuesday, November 19, 79-61. This marked the first time the two teams have met, with the Bison taking the 1-0 advantage over Mount Union.

The Bison took control early in the first half before heading to the locker room with a 16 point lead at the half, 36-20. The Raiders would get as close as 13 points in the second half as Bethany went on for the 79-61 victory.

Mount Union was led by junior Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) and sophomore Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) who each scored 12 points for the Raiders.

Bethany was led by Delonte' Joyce who scored 17 points and recorded 14 rebounds in the victory. Lawrence Weldon and Leslie Addy each chipped in 15 points.

Bethany out-shot Mount Union 41.9% (26-62) to 35.5% (22-62) and grabbed six more rebounds than the Raiders, 45 to 39.

This season, the Raiders have outscored their opponents 77-73 in the first half and 83-79 in the second half on .392 percent shooting from the field (60-153).

COACHES

Mike Fuline (Kent State '98) is 25-31 in his third year as head coach at Mount Union where last year he led the team to the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championship game.

Todd McGuinness (Bethany (W.Va.) '02) is in his fifth season at Hartwick, where he has tied the Hawks record for wins in a season with 23 in 2011-12 and a record of 12 conference wins with the Hawks.  

Mark Gilbride (Bowdoin '02) is in his fifth season at Clarkson, as he has claimed 59 in his first four seasons as head coach for the Golden Knights. 

Luke Flockerzi (Grinnell) is in his fourth season at Rochester where he has posted a 62-22 record in his first three seasons with the Yellow Jackets.
