Men's Basketball: Mount Union Makes It 10 in a Row After 93-80 Win Over Wilmington; Raiders Stay in First Place

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's basketball team won its 10th straight game and stayed alone in first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 93-80 victory over Wilmington Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.

Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) had a game-high 22 points and Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) matched his season-high with 19 points for the Purple Raiders that are now 12-2 overall and at 7-0 in the OAC extend their lead in the standings to 1.5 games.

T.J. Gillespie (Toledo/Toledo St. John's) had 11 of his 14 points in the second half and Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) had 13 points as the other double digit scorers for Mount Union.

R.J. Leppert had 20 points while Malcolm Heard II had 19 points and 11 rebounds to pace Wilmington (9-5, 6-2 OAC).

There were five lead changes over the game's first nine minutes and with the score tied at 18, Mount Union went on a 23-9 run over a five minute span to lead 41-27 with 5:41 left in the half. 

Wilmington responded by finishing the period on a 14-3 run to cut the Raider lead to 44-41 at the break.

The Quakers kept the momentum to start the second half with an 8-2 run to lead 49-46 with 16:54 left in the game. 

Mount Union scored eight of the next nine points to go up 54-50 and never trailed again pushing the margin to 13 points in the 93-80 win.

The Raiders have a quick turnaround with an OAC game Monday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 pm at Capital in Columbus.
