Men's Basketball: #16 Mount Union Play Two Games in Florida Monday and Tuesday

Mount Union's men's basketball team, ranked No. 16 in the nation, plays a pair of games at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Scouting the Raiders: Mount Union is 8-2 and has won six straight games after a 65-63 win over Hood (Md.) Monday night.

Kyle Scelza (Stow/Stow) came back off a broken foot and hit six three-pointers to lead all scorers with 18 points. Jake Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) had 12 and Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) had 11 points and nine rebounds as the Purple Raiders other double digit scorers.

Mount Union averages 82.2 points per game and has four players averaging double figures in scoring led by sophomore JJ Kukura (Alliance/Alliance) at 18.1 points per game.

The other three top scorers for the Purple Raiders are seniors Jake Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) 14.6 ppg, Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) 12.8 ppg and Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) 11.4 ppg.  Dillon also is three points from being the 29th player in school history with 1,000 career points.

Scouting Colby: After dropping its opener, Colby has won seven straight games including a 93-70 win against St. Scholastica Monday night.

Chris Hudnut had a game-high 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting as the Mules never trailed.

The Mules score 83 points per game and have four players averaging in double figures led by Chris Hudnut at 17.1 points per game.

Coaches: Mike Fuline (Kent State '98) is in his fifth season at Mount Union with an overall record of 76-45.  Fuline has won an OAC regular season and tournament title and was the 2015 Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year leading the Raiders to the NCAA Sweet 16.  Before coming to Alliance, Fuline spent six years as head coach of Massillon Jackson High School and won the 2010 OHSAA Division I Boys State Basketball Championship.

Damien Strahorn (Colby, Me. '02) enters his fifth year as head coach at Colby. Strahorn helped the Mules to a seven-win improvement during the 2013-14 season. One of the 14 wins came against defending national champion Amherst.
