Men’s Basketball: Mount Union Comes Up Short Against Muskingum in Overtime

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union men's basketball fell just short in overtime, 83-30, on the road against Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest on Monday night.

Mount Union was led by Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) with a game-high 24 points, while Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) had 22, Miles Griffin (Massillon/Jackson) scored 16, and Jake Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) finished 11. The Raiders are now 15-8, and 11-5 in the OAC.

Joshua Keyes led Muskingum with 18 points and 14 rebounds. The Muskies had four other players in double figures, including: Jalen Paige (15), Rickey Wilson (15), Joshua Glass (14), and Malik Billingsley (11). With the win, Muskingum improves to 6-17, 3-13 in the OAC.

In the first half, Mount Union ran out to a 12-6 lead within the first three minutes of the game. Muskingum would regain the lead, 16-15, with 13:38 remaining in the half off a jumper by Rickey Wilson. The Muskies held on to that lead for the rest of the half and even extended it to as much as 13 before 44-33 lead at the half. Ruffin led the Raiders with 13 points in the first half.

Muskingum continued to keep its lead to begin the second half of play, even extending it to 15 with 16:24 remaining in the game. Mount Union answered with a 27-13 run to come within one, then a three pointer by Dillon gave Mount Union the lead again, 66-64, with 4:54 remaining in the game.  Mount Union led by four, 70-66, with 2:17 remaining in regulation. Rickey Wilson made a three pointer to tie the game and helped Muskingum end regulation on 7-3 run in the last two minutes to send the game to overtime.

The Raiders immediately grabbed the lead in overtime off a layup by Ruffin within the first minute. Mount Union led by as much as three with 4:20 remaining in overtime, until the Muskies rallied to outscore the Raiders 10-5 in overtime to seal the victory.

Mount Union is back in action on Wednesday, February 17, when the Raiders host #8 John Carroll at the MAAC in Alliance, Ohio.
