ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team ralllied to defeat nationally ranked No. 8 John Carroll, 100-94, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Wednesday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) scored a game-high 22 points and was one of five Purple Raiders in double figures as Mount Union snapped a three-game skid and is now 16-8 overall and 12-5 in the OAC.

Kyle Scelza (Stow/Stow) scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half, Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) added 15, Jake Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) scored 14, and Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) finished with 13 as the other Raiders in double digits.

David Linane led John Carroll with 17 points to lead five in double figures for the Blue Streaks, who after starting the season 21-0 are now 21-3 and 14-3 in the OAC.

John Carroll built a 14-8 lead within the game's first five minutes before the Raiders went on a 9-3 run to tie the game up at 17-17 with 12:30 remaining in the half. The Blue Streaks scored four straight to retake the lead and later pushed that lead to as many as 11 points before taking a 47-41 lead at the break.

Mount Union opened the second half on a 13-7 surge to tie the game at 54-54 but John Carroll answered with a 9-0 run to take a 63-54 lead with 15 minutes left in the game. The Raiders stayed within striking distance until a Scelza three-pointer with just over six minutes left gave them just their second lead of the game, 80-79.  Another Scelza three, this one with 4:33 left made the score 87-86 in favor of Mount Union and jump started a 13-7 run to finish the game.

Mount Union closes out the regular season Saturday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m., when the Raiders host Wilmington for Senior Day at the MAAC in Alliance, Ohio.
