ALBION, Mich -- Mount Union's men's basketball team advanced to 3-1 on the season with an 86-62 non-conference win at Albion (Mich.) Saturday.
In a game where the Purple Raiders never trailed, they were led by senior guard JJ Kukura (Alliance/Alliance) went 6-of-9 from three-point range as he had a game and season-high 25 points along with five rebounds and four assists. Junior Andrew Francesconi (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) had 15 points as 12 different Mount Union players got in the scoring column.
Mount Union had a 10-7 lead in the game's opening five minutes before going on a 14-4 run to take a 25-11 lead with 8:38 to play in the half. The Raiders would eventually push that lead to 20 points 44-24 on a pair of Francesconi free throws just before halftime and took that lead into the lockers. Mount Union's defense held the Britons to just 29-percent shooting (8-of-28) from the floor while Kukura had 16 points in the period.
The Raiders pushed the lead to as many as 30 points in the second half before the 86-62 final. Mount Union finished the game shooting 33-of-66 from the floor with 14 three-pointers.
Mount Union returns home to host Hiram in a non-conference game Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the McPherson Athletic and Academic Complex.
