MARIETTA, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's basketball team dropped an 81-69 matchup at No. 13 Marietta in Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening at Ban Johnson Arena.
Three Purple Raiders finished with double-digit point totals with junior D'Vontay Friga (Cuyahoga Falls) leading with 15 points, senior Diallo Niamke (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) tallying 13 points and junior Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow) recording 12 points.
Marietta (14-2, 8-1 OAC) was led by Anthony Wallace who finished with a game-high 22 points.
The Raiders jumped out to a 13-6 lead to start the game forcing a Marietta timeout. The Pioneers would string together a 7-0 run to tie the game at 13. Marietta hit a pair of three-pointers to spark a 24-2 run that pushed the lead to 37-22. The Raiders clawed back to shrink the deficit to 41-37 at the half with a 17-4 run over the final four minutes.
Stenger opened the second half with a three-pointer that cut the Pioneer lead at 44-40. The lead stayed at four until a pair of free throws from freshman Mario Caywood (Streetsboro/Benedictine) and a layup from freshman Collen Gurley (Akron/Hoban) tied the game at 53 with 13:20 left in regulation. Mount Union kept close with the Pioneers after a layup from Friga saw the score shift to 64-61. Marietta then went a 10-2 to go up 74-63 and go on to an 81-69 victory.
The Raiders (13-3, 7-2 OAC) return home to host Wilmington in an OAC matchup Saturday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. at the MAAC.
