NEW CONCORD, Ohio--Mount Union's men's basketball team collected an 87-78 win at Muskingum in Ohio Athletic Conference action Wednesday at Anne C. Steele Center.
Six different Purple Raiders finished with 10 or more points as senior Andrew Francesconi (Tallmadge) scored 15 points, junior Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow) tallied 12 points, freshmen Mario Caywood (Streetsboro/ Benedictine) and Collen Gurley (Akron/Hoban) both recorded 11 points while seniors Tommy Stenger (North Canton/Hoover) and D'Vontay Friga (Cuyahoga Falls) finished with 10 points.
Muskingum (7-13, 3-10 OAC) was led by Deavon Peart with a game-high 18 points.
Mount Union jumped out to a 10-6 advantage to start the game. The Raiders pushed their lead to six off a three-point shot from Friga with a little over 10 minutes left in the half. Muskingum got as close as 24-23 before Mount Union rattled off seven unanswered points to widen the lead. Following a Muskie timeout, the Raiders held a 10-point lead with three minutes left in the period at 38-28. Mount Union headed into the break up 41-33.
Muskingum started the second half cutting the point margin to single digits at 45-38. The Raiders put together a 7-2 run before the Muskies retaliated with a 15-5 run to regain the lead at 55-54. Another 11-5 run for the Raiders saw the score shift to 65-60 with eight minutes left in regulation. The Mount Union lead extended to nine to put the game away and go on to the 87-78 win.
The Raiders (16-4, 10-3 OAC) stay on the road traveling to Otterbein on Saturday, Feb. 2 with a 2 p.m. tip-off time.
