Men's Basketball: Mount Union 7th in NCAA Great Lakes Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Mount Union's men's basketball team is ranked seventh in the first NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Rankings of the season.

The Purple Raiders are 17-4 overall and one five Ohio Athletic Conference teams ranked among the nine teams selected by a committee with representative from each conference in the region.

OAC co-leaders Marietta and Capital are in the No. 1 and No. 4 spots respectively with Wilmington ranked eighth and Baldwin Wallace in ninth.

Three of those teams remain on Mount Union's schedule as the Raiders host Marietta Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. then next week play at Baldwin Wallace before finishing the regular season at home against Capital.

The rankings are used to pick the at-large teams and determine seeds for the 64-team NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.

There are 43 conference champions who earn automatic bids to the tournament, one spot is held for independents then the final 20 spots are national at-large bids.

The OAC's automatic bid goes to the winner of the OAC Tournament which will be held Feb. 19 - 23.
