TIFFIN, Ohio--Mount Union's men's basketball team picked up a 72-66 victory over Heidelberg in Ohio Athletic Conference competition Saturday, afternoon at Seiberling Gymnasium.
Junior Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow) collected his second straight double-double finishing with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Collen Gurley (Akron/Hoban) chipped in with 12 points as the Purple Raiders improve to 19-4 and 13-3 in the conference.
Myron Prewitt had 19 points for Heidelberg (8-15, 6-10 OAC).
Mount Union used a 14-4 run midway through the first half to take a 25-14 advantage. Bower-Malone sank five straight points for the Raiders to extend the lead to 37-23 with 1:30 left in the half. Mount Union would eventually take a 39-26 lead into the intermission break.
Another 12-2 run for the Raiders in the second half saw the score grow to 61-42 with a three-pointer from Gurley. Heidelberg retaliated with a 12-4 run of their own to narrow the gap to 65-54. The Student Princes continued to slowly chip away at the lead throughout the rest of the half shrinking the deficit to eight with 40 seconds remaining. The Raiders put the game away sinking 5-of-6 free throws to seal the 72-66 win.
The Raiders stay on the road traveling to Baldwin Wallace Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
