Men's Basketball: Mount Union Tops OAC Coaches Poll

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team grabbed the top spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll announced Tuesday.

The Purple Raiders received 79 points and seven first place votes in the poll which was 12 points ahead of second place Marietta with 57 points with one first place vote while the last two first place votes belong to John Carroll with 64 points.

Entering his ninth season as head coach at Mount Union, Mike Fuline looks to the return of eight letterwinners headlined by All-OAC first team guard Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow) and OAC Freshman of the Year Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban).

A year ago, the Raiders went 22-6 overall and 14-4 in the OAC to win a share of the OAC regular season title. Mount Union advanced to the championship game of the OAC Tournament.

Mount Union opens the season Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m. at home against Albion (Mich.).
