COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9 ranked Mount Union men's basketball team finished off the best regular season in school history with an 82-67 Ohio Athletic Conference victory at Capital Saturday at The Capital Center.
The Purple Raiders finish with a 22-3 overall record, 17-1 in the OAC, along with 14-straight victories.
Mount Union got 24 points from D'Vontay Friga (Cuyahoga Falls) and 20 from Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow), Braedon Poole (McDonald) had 12 points and 12 rebounds and John Carroll (Massillon / Tuslaw) had 11 points.
Reed Bradfield had 18 points to lead Capital (13-12, 9-9 OAC).
The Raiders never trailed as they jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the game's first five minutes. Mount Union eventually led 34-7 on a Poole layup with 9:41 left in the period and took a 45-28 lead into the locker room.
Capital got no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Mount Union enters next week's OAC Tournament as the top seed and will host No. 8 seed Otterbein Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
