Men's Basketball: Mount Union to Host NCAA First and Second Rounds Friday-Saturday

Mount Union will host the first and second rounds of the 2020 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Friday and Saturday, March 6-7 at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance, Ohio.

Friday's first round matchups feature the host Purple Raiders against Cairn (Pa.) at 7:30 p.m. after a game between York (Pa.) against St. John Fisher (N.Y.) at 5 p.m.

Both first round winners meet Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Mount Union is ranked No. 7 in the nation and the Raiders are 25-3, winners of a school-record 17 games in a row and champions of the Ohio Athletic Conference. It is the third-ever tournament appearance for Mount Union and first since 2015. In their previous two trips, Mount Union has advanced to the round of 16. The Raiders are undefeated at home this season.

Cairn, located in Langhorne, Pa., is 18-9 and won the Colonial States Athletic Conference title as the Highlanders are making their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

York, located in York, Pa., is 22-5 and won the Capital Athletic Conference title and the Spartans are making their seventh appearance with a 6-7 record in tournament games and a national semifinal appearance in 2005.

St. John Fisher, located in Pittsford, N.Y., is 19-8 and won the Empire 8 title and the Cardinals are 17th appearance with a 12-16 record in tournament games with an Elite 8 appearance in 2006.

Tickets will be available at the door 90 minutes before tip-off each day and are $12 for adults and $7 for seniors, students and children while children under two are free.

The winner of this pod advances to a round of 16 matchup next weekend against the winner of a pod that has Benedictine (Ill.) against Susquehanna (Pa.) and LaRoche (Pa.) against Wittenberg with those games in Springfield, Ohio.
