ZANESVILLE, Ohio—Mount Union senior Colin Broughton (Hartville/Lake) won his first collegiate tournament in leading the Mount Union men's golf team to a third place finish at the Muskingum Spring Invitational at Eaglesticks Golf Club in Zanesville.
Broughton shot consecutive career-low rounds of 67 to earn medalist honors with a 134. He finished six strokes ahead of Denison's Taylor Ford, who finished second with a 140.
The Purple Raiders posted a team score of 286 on the second day to surpass Ohio Northern for third place with a 585, which was 16 shots behind Otterbein. Denison finished second with a 583 while Ohio Northern took fourth place with a 590. Point Park rounded out the top five with a 599.
Sophomore Dillon Bright (Granville/Granville) entered the second day of competition tied for 28th place, but shot a 72 to finish the event tied for 13th place with a 148. Junior Jon Lieser (Minerva/Minerva) was just one stroke behind Bright and finished tied for 15th with a 149. Ben Lehrke (North Ridgeville/Lutheran West) rounded out Mount Union's team score with a 155.
Mount Union will participate in the John Carroll Invitational at Shaker Heights Country Club on Monday.
