Men's Lacrosse Picks Up First Conference Win Saturday Against Capital
ALLIANCE, Ohio - In their first Ohio Athletic Conference contest as a program the Mount Union men's lacrosse team defeated Capital 9-1 Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders improved their record to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the OAC while the Crusaders fell to 7-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Mount Union was led by Stephen Jones (Hudson/Hudson) who had two goals and two assists. Josh Stephens (North Canton/Green) and Chris Daley (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) added two goals apiece for the Raiders.
Mount Union held the Crusaders scoreless in the first quarter while the offense posted three goals to lead 3-0 after the first quarter.
Capital's lone goal came from Michael Trefethern to open the second quarter. Mount Union responded by scoring three more goals to take a 6-1 lead into halftime.
The Raiders tacked on three second half goals from Jones, Stephens and Toren Moore (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) for the final score of 9-1.
Mount Union next plays an OAC game at John Carroll Wednesday, April 16 at 7 pm in University Heights.
