Men’s Lacrosse: Mount Union Picked Fifth in OAC Preseason Poll

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's lacrosse team was picked to finish fifth in the Ohio Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.

Mount Union received 25 points which was seven points behind fourth place John Carroll. Defending conference champion Otterbein tops the poll with 47 points and five first place votes. The remaining three first place votes went to Capital which sits second in the poll followed by Baldwin Wallace in third.

The Purple Raiders went 5-9 overall and 2-4 in the OAC a year ago for head coach Brian Stewart, entering his third year at the helm.  Mount Union returns a pair of two-time all-conference players in senior goalie Collin Peters (Portland, Ore./Sunset) and junior attack Chris Daley (Wilmington, Del./Dupont).

This is the fourth year of a men's lacrosse team at Mount Union since the university reinstated the sport in 2012.  Mount Union had also had a team from 1983-86.  The OAC began lacrosse as a conferecne sport in 2013 and this season will have eight teams with the addition of Ohio Northern. The conference will expand to nine teams in 2017 when Heidelberg begins play.

Mount Union opens its season Saturday, Feb. 20 at Thiel (Pa.).  The Raiders home opener is Wednesday, Mar. 9 at 7:30 p.m. against Washington & Jefferson (Pa.).
