ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's lacrosse team defeated La Roche (Pa.), 18-3, on Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders, now 4-2, were led by Michael Muniak (Medina/Medina) with four goals. Mount Union had 12 total players contribute to the scoring effort.
La Roche was led by Brad LaBovick with two goals of his own. The Red Hawks are now 1-8 on the season.
Mount Union ran out to a 5-0 lead within the first six minutes of play off a Muniak goal. The Raiders blanked the Red Hawks 6-0 in the first quarter of play. In the second, Mount Union continued to extend its lead to as much as 12, 12-0, off another Muniak goal with 1:31 remaining in the half. La Roche got on the board with 00:53 seconds remaining in the half off a LaBovick goal. Josh Stephens (North Canton/Green) scored in the final moments of the first half (00:09) to push the Mount Union lead back up to 12. The Raiders led 13-1 at the half.
Mount Union carried its momentum into the second half of play when Carl Spoczyk (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls) scored within the first four minutes of play. The Raiders recorded 29 points, 39 groundballs, and eight caused turnovers to seal the win.
Mount Union is back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 29, when they host Oberlin. The game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
