Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Stop Late Run to Defeat Oberlin

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's lacrosse team earned its fifth win of the season with a 12-11 victory over Oberlin Tuesday night at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders, now 5-2, was led by Kyle Adams (St. Catharines, Ontario/St. Francis Catholic) with a game-high four goals. Four other Raiders contributed goals to help in the win.

Oberlin (2-6) was led by Matthew Fox with three goals.

In the first quarter of play, Oberlin took the first command of the day when Eric Hager scored within the first three minutes of the game. Josh Stephens (North Canton/Green) tied the game for Mount Union with a goal of his own but the Yeoman surged back with two unanswered goals to extend their lead to 3-1 with 00:39 remaining in the quarter. Michael Muniak (Medina/Medina) scored for the Raiders with 00:08 left in the quarter to cut the deficit and trail 3-2 to end the quarter. Chris Daley (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) tied the game once again, 3-3, to begin the third quarter of play. Oberlin's Elie Small answered back with 10:54 remaining in the half with a goal to inch the Yeoman ahead of Mount Union once again. Adams then evened the game with 08:53 left to make the scored 4-4. Another score by Adams with 3:49 remaining in the half the Raiders their first lead of the game. Fox again scored for Oberlin to even the game 5-5 at halftime.

Mount Union's Muniak and Oberlin's Kinori Rosnow both scored early in the third quarter to bring the score to 6-6. Adams scored again with 08:56 remaining in the quarter to give the Raiders a 7-6 lead. Mount Union carried that momentum to finish the third quarter up 9-8. The beginning stages of the fourth quarter saw Mount Union stretching its lead to 10-8 off goals by Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md/Quince Orchard) and Daley with 10:52 remaining in the game. Oberlin made a run late in the quarter with three unanswered goals within a minute but the Raiders were able to hold off the Yeomen to seal the victory.

Mount Union is back in action next Wednesday, April 6th, as they open OAC against Muskingum. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
