AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- The Mount Union men's lacrosse team was placed sixth in the Ohio Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Purple Raiders received 32 total points, which is just three points behind fifth-place Ohio Northern. John Carroll is projected to finish first after receiving 61 points and five first place votes. Baldwin Wallace came in second with four first place votes and 59 points overall.
The Mount Union men's lacrosse team closed the 2015-16 season with a 9-5 overall record and 4-3 OAC record, finishing fifth in the OAC's standings under Head Coach Brian Stewart.
The Mount Union men's lacrosse program graduated a dozen players in its first senior class at the conclusion of the 2016 season, opening the door for many young faces to make an impact on the future of the program in 2017.
Stewart has added assistant coaches in Mark Destro, a 2014 graduate of Catholic University (D.C), and Josh Stephens, a 2016 Mount Union graduate and former player, for the upcoming season.
This season, the Raiders will return last year's leading scorer in senior attackman Chris Daley, who recorded 31 goals, 8 assists and 70 total points. Brent Greenberg had a breakout year as a sophomore last season; he started 11 games of 14, recorded 20 goals and 38 groundballs, and shot 56.9% on goal. Mount Union will also look to sophomore Javin Re, who will spearhead the defense after causing 21 turnovers and recording 47 groundballs last year.
