WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Union sophomore Kyle Adams (St. Catharines, Ontario/St. Francis Catholic) scored a season-high four goals in the men's lacrosse team's 17-10 loss to Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Otterbein University Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders fall to 5-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play, while Otterbein improves to 5-7 overall and 3-1 in the OAC.
Otterbein scored two goals in the opening minutes of the first quarter before senior Chris Daley (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) cut the score in half, 2-1, after notching a goal with 6:41 on the clock. The Cardinals responded with two additional goals to lead the Raiders 4-1 at the end of the first 15 minutes.
The Cardinals struck again 1:14 into the second period to lead Mount Union 5-1. Adams cut Otterbein's lead to three after scoring his first goal a minute and a half later, but two more goals by Otterbein had the Raiders trailing 7-2 with 6:52 remaining. Sophomore Grant Elffers (Hudson/Hudson) scored in a man-up situation with just over five minutes left, but one final goal by Otterbein had the Raiders trailing 8-3 at the break.
Mount Union was outscored 4-2 in the third quarter, with both goals coming from Adams at the 12:27 and 45 second marks, respectively.
The Raiders scored five goals in the final 15 minutes; junior Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) tallied two goals, while Elffers, Daley and Adams added one apiece. Otterbein also tabbed five goals in the quarter to seal a 17-10 win over the Raiders.
Mount Union will honor its seniors before playing its next OAC match-up against Capital University on Friday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
