LATROBE, Pa. -- The Mount Union men's lacrosse team suffered a 13-9 loss to St. Vincent College Saturday afternoon in Latrobe.
Mount Union (1-1) was led by sophomore Sean O'Loughlin (Hudson/Hudson) who scored three goals. Additionally, senior Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md / Quince Orchard) tallied a game-high four assists and one goal.
In the loss, freshman Chris Motter (Hudson/Hudson) set a single game school-record with 14 groundballs.
Saint Vincent's (2-0) Jeremy Kennedy led the team with a game-high four goals and three assists.
Junior Declan McCartin (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne's County) found the back of the net two minutes into the game to give the Raiders an early 1-0 lead. The Bearcats surged ahead with five straight goals to lead 5-1 with 13:13 left in the second quarter.
Later in the second quarter, freshmen Alek Kungle (Hartville, Lake) scored reducing the Bearcat lead to 5-2. However, St. Vincent would score three goals to close out the quarter resulting in an 8-2 halftime deficit for the Raiders.
Mount Union rallied with a strong start in the third quarter with goals by O'Loughlin, Greenberg, freshman Seamus McCartin (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne's County) and Kungle minimizing the deficit to 9-6 with 7:00 left in the third.
Both teamed exchanged goals for the remaining of the matchup. But the Raiders could not minimize the Bearcat lead of three and St. Vincent sealed a 13-9 victory over Mount Union.
Mount Union next travels to Wesley, Del. on Saturday, March 3 for a non-conference matchup against Wesley College beginning at 2 p.m.
