Men's Lacrosse: Oberlin Rallies to Beat Raiders in Home Opener

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union suffered a 9-8 overtime loss to Oberlin in the home opener Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders fall to 2-2 overall while Oberlin remains undefeated at 4-0 overall.

Oberlin scored five goals in the fourth quarter and a Tom Decker goal with 48 seconds left in overtime was the winner. Steve Kelleher led the Yeoman with three goals.

Mount Union got two goals each from freshmen Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) and Cole Abid (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne's County).

The Raiders took a 3-1 lead in the first quarter on goals from Grant Elffers (Hudson), Abid and Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard).

Both teams scored in the second quarter -- Mount Union's score came on a man-up goal from Declan McCartin (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne's County) -- to make the score 4-2 Raiders at the half.

Kungle scored an even and man-up goal to start the third quarter to extend the Raider lead to 6-2. Kelleher scored his first goal of the game for Oberlin with just over seven minutes left in the quarter and Abid notched his second of the game with just a second remaining to give Mount Union a 7-3 lead heading into the fourth.

Oberlin got a pair of goals in the first 1:12 of the fourth to get within 7-5 before Thomas Ravlin (Centreville, Md. / Centreville) gave the Raiders an 8-5 lead with a score at the 10:44 mark.

The Yeoman would score three times in the final 8:49 to tie the game -- Kelleher's third tied it at 8-8 with 3:42 to play.

Mount Union next plays at Washington & Jefferson Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in Washington, Pa.
