WASHINGTON, Pa. – A first half shutout led the Mount Union men's lacrosse team to a 10-3 victory over Washington and Jefferson Wednesday night.
Mount Union (3-2) was led by senior Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md / Quince Orchard) who compiled a season-high eight points on three goals and five assists. Additionally, freshmen Paul Gill (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne's County) scored two goals, sophomore Cole Abid (Rockville, Md. / Thomas S. Wootton) had six ground balls and junior Jake Krone (Stow / Hudson) collected seven saves for the Purple Raiders.
Mark Mandak led W&J (2-6) with one goal and one assist.
Greenberg scored the lone goal of the first quarter giving Mount Union a 1-0 lead. The goal made him the first Mount Union men's lacrosse player to reach both 100 points and 100 ground balls.
Freshmen Evan Eifert (Cincinnati / Moeller) scored first in the second quarter with 12:28 remaining. Greenberg scored two goals and assisted on two others to give Mount Union a 6-0 halftime lead over the Presidents.
W&J got on the board in the third quarter with two goals, reducing the lead to 6-2. Mount Union scored four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter from Hunter Holt (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley), Grant Elffers (Hudson / Hudson), Gill and Greenberg.
Mount Union will next face Chatham (Pa.) on Saturday March 17 at Mount Union Stadium beginning at 1:00 PM.
