Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Dropped by John Carroll at Home

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team lost 13-5 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup against John Carroll Wednesday night at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders drop to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

The Raiders were led by freshmen Chris Motter (Hudson) who won all 15 of his faceoff opportunities and had a game-high 12 groundballs. Motter is currently ranked second in NCAA Division III in faceoff percentage. Additionally, five different players scored for Mount Union.

Collin Rice led the Blue Streaks with three goals and one assist.

Six turnovers doomed Mount Union in the opening quarter as John Carroll scored a trio of goals and held the Raiders scoreless to lead 3-0.

Freshman Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) got the Raiders on the board just 27 seconds into the second quarter. The Streaks responded with five unanswered goals, making it an 8-1 deficit for Mount Union at the 4:42 mark in the second quarter. Junior Javin Re (Chantilly, Va. / Chantilly) closed out the half with a goal, reducing the John Carroll lead to six, 8-2.

The Raiders were outscored 5-3 in the second half with the three goals coming from freshman Jacob Dodd (Ridgley, Md. / North Caroline), freshman Grant Elffers (Hudson) and junior Hunter Holt (Cranberry, Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley) in the loss.

Mount Union next hosts Otterbein in an OAC matchup Saturday, April 7 at 7 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
