BEXLEY, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team lost on the road at Capital, 19-6, in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at Purmort Field in Bexley.
The Purple Raiders drop to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the OAC while the Crusaders improve to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The Raiders were led by sophomore Sean O'Loughlin (Hudson) and freshman Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) who each tallied three goals. Additionally, Jacob Dodd collected a game-high seven groundballs and junior goalie Jake Krone (Stow / Hudson) had a game-high 20 saves.
Brennan O'Callaghan led the Crusaders with a game-high nine points on seven goals and two assists.
Capital scored first with 6:13 left in the first quarter and Mount Union tied the game 1:12 later as O'Loughlin reached the back of the net on an assist from senior Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md. /Quince Orchard).
The second quarter was all Capital as the Crusaders out-scored Mount Union, 6-1, with the Raiders lone goal coming from O'Loughlin –his second of the game-- resulting in a 7-2 halftime score.
Just 35 seconds into the third quarter, Kungle scored on an assist from junior Grant Elffers (Hudson) to make it 7-3 but on the ensuing faceoff, Capital secured the ball and scored again to push the lead out to 8-3. O'Loughlin notched his third of the game on an unassisted goal with 13:05 left in the third to make it 8-4 before Capital surged forward with four four unanswered goals to make it 12-4 at the end of the quarter.
Capital scored seven of the game's final nine goals in the fourth quarter as both Mount Union goals came from Kungle for the 19-6 final.
Mount Union next hosts Muskingum in an OAC matchup Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
