ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team defeated Muskingum 16-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders snapped a four-game slide to improve to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the OAC while the Fighting Muskies drop to 3-11 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
Mount Union senior Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) tallied three goals and five assists for a game-high eight points. Freshmen Seamus McCartin (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne's City) and Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) each scored three goals as well for the Raiders.
Zach Kern led the Muskies with one goal.
In the first quarter, five different players scored goals as Mount Union held a 7-0 advantage. Greenberg and Grant Elffers (Hudson) each netted two goals while Hunter Holt (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley), McCartin and Kungle each scored one goal in the quarter for the Raiders. Additionally, Greenberg led the team with two assists in the first and the Raider defense prevented Muskingum from taking any shots.
The momentum continued in the second quarter for Mount Union as they outscored the Muskies 3-1. Greenberg had a hand in each of the three scores with a goal and two assists. Kungle and Sean O'Loughlin (Hudson) scored the other two goals and the Raiders took a 10-1 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Mount Union increased its lead as McCartin scored two more goalsand Paul Gill (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne's City) scored one to up the lead to 13-1.
