Men's Lacrosse: Slow Start Sends Raiders to Loss at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team dropped a 19-10 Ohio Athletic Conference contest at Baldwin Wallace Wednesday evening in George Finnie Stadium.   

The Purple Raiders drop to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the OAC while the Yellow Jackets improve to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Mount Union was led by senior Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) who tallied three goals and four assists while reshman Chris Motter (Hudson) won 23 of 25 faceoffs and had a game-high 18 ground balls.

Chad Steinwachs led the Jackets with four goals and six assists.

Mount Union fell behind early as Ben Kubiak got the Jackets on the board just 49 seconds into the first quarter. BW went on to out-score the Raiders 9-2 in the quarter with Mount Union's two goals coming from Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) and Greenberg.

The Raiders started the second quarter with Kungle's second goal to trim the lead to six at the 10:42 mark, but BW responded with four unanswered goals making it 13-3 in favor of the Jackets. Mount Union's Jacob Dodd halted the run as he notched the last goal of the half which was assisted by Motter, resulting in a 13-4 score at the break.

In the third quarter, both teams netted four goals two of  Mount Union goals were scored by Paul Gill (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne's County) and it 17-8 entering the final quarter.

Both teams went on to score two goals in the fourth quarter as Greenberg and Thomas Ravlin (Centerville, Md.) found the back of the net for the Raiders in the 19-10 final.

Mount Union finishes the season with a home game Saturday at 1 p.m. against Heidelberg where the Raiders three seniors will be honored prior to first face-off.
