GREENVILLE, Pa. – Mount Union was outscored 5-1 in the second half to fall 6-5 at Thiel in the season opener Saturday in Greenville, Pa.
Dylan Waskiewicz scored with 33 seconds left to break a 5-5 tie and lift Thiel (1-0) to the win.
Alek Kungle (Hudson) had three goals in the loss for the Purple Raiders.
Mount Union led 3-0 at the end of first quarter on a goal from Chris Motter (Hudson) and two from Kungle.
Both teams each scored once in the second goal – the Mount Union goal from freshman Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) in his first college game and the Raiders led 4-1 at the half.
Thiel tied the game with three third quarter goals and took a 5-4 lead on a Waskiewicz score with just over 13 minutes to play.
Kungle tied the game with 8:28 remaining.
Mount Union next plays Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. at Grove City College in Grove City, Pa.
