Men's Lacrosse: Strong Second Half Sends Raiders to Win

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team posted four second half goals to get a 6-5 win over Westminster (Pa.) Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

Freshman Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) had two goals and two assists to even the Purple Raiders record at 2-2 on the season.

Westminster (1-1) which had leads of 2-1 and 3-2 got two goals each from Joe Rosa and Ryan Shorts.

Westminster scored two goals in a span of 43 seconds late in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead but Addonizio scored his first goal with 1:07 left and Mount Union trailed 2-1 after one period.

Addonizio tallied his second goal of the game off an Alek Kungle (Hudson) assist at the 6:52 mark of the second quarter but Westminster retook the lead just 28 seconds later and led 3-2 at the break.

Mount Union bounced back as freshman Clayton Barkan (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) scored his first collegiate goal to tie it up just 2:35 into the third quarter then Grant Elffers (Hudson) scored off a Addonizio assist to give the Raiders their first lead with 9:54 left in the quarter.

Westminster tied the game with 5:53 to play but a minute later Matt Bisono (Deer Park, N.Y.) gave the Raiders the lead back off another Addonizio assist. Mount Union then got an insurance goal from Kungle with 3:37 to play. Westminster tried to get back in the game with a goal in the final minute for the 6-5 final.  

Mount Union stays home to host Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
