Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Rally Falls Short Against Ohio Northern

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team lost to Ohio Northern 12-8 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) had a season-high five points with four goals and an assist to lead the Purple Raiders, who are now 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.

Ohio Northern (8-1, 2-0 OAC) got three goals and two assists from Cameron Marous.

Northern started the scoring when Kevin Giles scored at the 8:20 into the game then Anthony Pavone then added a goal with 1:53 left in the first quarter as the Polar Bears took a 2-0 lead. Kungle scored with eight seconds left in the period to make it 2-1.

Anthony Achille (Lakota / Lakota East) tied the game with a score 3:30 into the second quarter with an assist from Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western). Ohio Northern then retook the lead on a goal from Nicholas Groves with 3:21 before halftime. Kungle tied it again with an unassisted goal with 30 seconds left in the half and it was 3-3 at the break.

Ohio Northern then went on a 7-0 run to take a 10-3 lead with 13:33 to play. Mount Union then rallied scoring five of the next six goals over the next 12 minutes on two goals from Kungle and Hunter Holt (Medina) and another from Matt Bisono (Deer Park, N.Y.) to close to 11-8 but the rally ended there. Northern tacked on one more score in the game's final minute for the 12-8 final.

Mount Union travels to face Muskingum on Wednesday, April 3rd at 7 p.m. in New Concord.
