MARIETTA, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team won its second straight game with a 15-5 Ohio Athletic Conference win at Marietta Saturday.
Freshman Anthony Achille (Lakota / Lakota East) scored six goals to lead the Purple Raiders, who are now 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the OAC. The six goals are the most in a single game for a Mount Union player since Chris Daley scored six against Westminster (Pa.) in 2017.
Senior Jake Krone (Hudson) had seven saves in goal for Mount Union.
Quinn Rundgren tallied two goals for Marietta which is 4-7 and 0-4 in the OAC in its first season of a program since 2002.
Chris Motter (Hudson) took the opening faceoff and ran down and scored just six seconds into the contest. The fast start continued as Mount Union scored three more times in the period with goals from Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake), Sean O'Loughlin (Hudson) and Achille to lead 4-0.
Marietta scored in the opening minute of the second quarter but the Raiders then answered with three goals from Grant Elffers (Hudson), Achille and Matt Bisono (Deer Park, N.Y.) over 1:37 of game time to push the lead to 7-1. The Pioneers would score at the 10:07 mark before another three-goal flurry from the Raiders with Ellfers, Christian Casto (Hurricane, W.Va.) and O'Loughlin all scoring to make it 10-2. Marietta scored again in the final 30 seconds and it was 10-3 at halftime.
Each team scored in the third quarter, Achille scored his third of the game for Mount Union and Raiders led 11-4.
Achille notched three more scores in the fourth quarter, giving him six for the game and made the score 14-4. Each team scored again in the final two minutes – Mount Union's score from Brandon Maxwell (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) – for the 15-5 final.
Mount Union returns home to host John Carroll in an OAC matchup Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
