Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Hold Off Heidelberg For OAC Road Win

TIFFIN, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team ran out to a big lead then held on to defeat Heidelberg 13-9 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday in Tiffin.

Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) had four goals and two assists, Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) had three goals and two assists while Alex Ellison (Uniontown / Lake) had two goals as the Purple Raiders raised their record to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.

Chris Motter (Hudson) and Noah Godfrey (Huntingtown, Md.) helped spark that offense for Mount Union as they won 24 of the 26 faceoffs in the game. Motter was 14-of-14 and Godfrey was 10-for-10.

Brock Hodson had three goals for Heidelberg (5-9, 2-4 OAC).

Ellison scored twice and Kungle once in a first quarter that saw the Raiders get out to a 3-1 lead. Mount Union then scored five of the six goals in the second quarter including a pair of man-up goals from Kungle in the final four minutes as the Raiders led 8-2 at the half.

Heidelberg charged back in the second half scoring six unanswered goals – two from Hodson – to tie the game at 8-8 with 6:45 to play. Mount Union responded with a flurry of five goals in five minutes, two of them from Addonizio, to retake the lead 13-8. Heidelberg scored once more with 21 seconds left for the 13-9 final.

Mount Union next plays Wilmington on Friday, April 19 at 1 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
