Men's Lacrosse: Career-Highs Lead Raiders to Victory Over Westminster

New Wilmington, Pa. -- Mount Union's men's lacrosse team defeated Westminster (Pa.) 14-9 Saturday afternoon in New Wilmington, Pa.

Junior Alek Kungle (Hudson) tied his career-high with four goal and two assists while freshman Eli Ciotti (Canonsburg, Pa. / Linsly) scored a career-high three goals as the Purple Raiders improve to 2-2 on the season.

Ryan Stiemly, Shane Fisher, and Joe Rosa each had two goals for Westminster (Pa.)(0-4).

Both teams scored three times in the first quarter as the Raiders goals came from Alex Ellison (Uniontown / Lake), Mike Vilsack (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township) and Logan Gebhart (McDonal, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) scored off an assist from Kungle.

Mount Union outscored Westminster 4-1 in the second quarter. Kungle and Ciotti got the first two goals then a Westminster goal stopped the run, but the Raiders got two more in the quarter from Mike Moretti (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / Lindenhurst) and Vilsack to lead 7-4 at the half.

The start of the third quarter had Mount Union score two goals with Ciotti and then Kungle to lead 9-4. Westminster got two goals of their own but Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) scored with 42 seconds left in the quarter to give the Raiders a 10-6 lead.

Kungle added two more goals in the fourth quarter along with one goal a piece from Ciotti and Addonizio to win the game 14-9.

Junior Chris Motter (Hudson) won 15 of the 21 faceoffs for the Raiders and freshman goalie Kyle Reihner (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) picked up his first win having eight saves.

Mount Union returns to Alliance, Ohio for the home opener against Allegheny Tuesday, Mar. 4 at 7 p.m.
