Men's Lacrosse: Purple Raiders Drown Gators In Home Opener

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men lacrosse team defeated Allegheny (Pa.) 12-2 Wednesday night at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders (3-2) were led by Alek Kungle (Hartville Lake) and Logan Gebhart (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-McMillian) who both scored three times and Kyle Reihner (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) picked up his second victory of the season with eight saves and one goal allowed.

Mount Union scored 37 seconds into the game with a goal from Gebhart. Neither team got another goal until four minutes remaining in the first quarter when Kungle scored off an assist from Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western). The Raiders got one more score in the first quarter from Addonizio.

Allegheny (1-2) got the first goal in the second quarter but three more goals from Addonizio, Gebhart, and Kungle gave Mount Union a 6-1 lead at the half.

The Raiders scored three goals in the third quarter from Gebhart, Kungle, and Eli Ciotti (Canonsburg, Pa. / Linsly) that pushed the lead to 9-1. The fourth quarter saw three more scored from Mount Union while Allegheny added another one. Mount Union got goals from Kungle, Sean O'Loughlin (Hudson), and Damian Wirth(Stoney Beach, Md. / Northeast).

Mount Union next plays Washington and Jefferson Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. in Washington, Pa.
