MARIETTA, Ohio – Junior Coty Lipply's (Rootstown/ Southeast) late goal lifted the Mount Union men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Marietta, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Wednesday.
The Purple Raiders improve to 6-6-0, 1-1-0 in OAC action, while Marietta falls to 3-8-0 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
Senior Thomas Beck (Poland/ Cardinal Mooney) would put the Raiders on the board first with an unassisted goal in the 18th minute with the 1-0 score holding for the remainder of the first half.
The Pioneers would tie the game at 1-1 in the 48th minute, and take their only lead, 2-1, in the 63rd minute. Beck would tie the game as he notched his second goal in the 77th minute.
It would be Lipply though, that would bury the ball at the 88:58 minute mark, to push Mount Union over Marietta.
The Raiders defense held the Pioneers to only eight shots, with freshman goalkeeper Dylan Lias (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Falls) having three saves.
Mount Union remains on the road as they take on the Wilmington Quakers on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m. in Wilmington, Ohio.
