ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's soccer team beat Baldwin Wallace (4-7-1, 0-2) in overtime by a score of 3-2.
Senior Johny Akindipe's (Twinsburg/CVCA) first goal of the year was the game-winner for the Purple Raiders (5-5, 1-1) as he scored in the 96th minute on the second assist of the night from classmate Stephen Dages (Uniontown/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary).
Baldwin Wallace's Danny Ruple scored both goals for the Yellow Jackets early in the first half of the contest for the Yellow Jackets as the Jackets took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Mount Union offense took over in the second half as they outshot Baldwin Wallace 11-5 where sophomore Jon Schroeder (Parma/Normandy) converted on two of those shots to tie the game. Schroeder scored an unassisted goal in the 50th minute to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. As the momentum was turning in favor of the Raiders, Schroeder scored his second goal of the night on an assist from Dages in the 72nd minute to tie the game 2-2 at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Raiders had all five shots in the period before Akindipe finally converted his header into the upper 90.
Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Hlas (Medina/Medina) played all 96 minutes for the Raiders facing 10 total shots.
The Raiders will head back on the road this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Heidelberg.
