ALLIANCE, Ohio --Two second half goals by Mount Union allowed the Purple Raiders to rally for a 2-1 win over Capital in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.
Senior Stephen Dages (Uniontown/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) scored the game-winning goal for the Raiders in the 88th minute for his fifth goal on the year.
With the win, Mount Union rises to 6-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the OAC while Capital drops to 9-5 and 3-2 in the conference.
In a chippy first half where there were three yellow cards, Capital took the lead on a long throw in assist by Greg Knox that resulted in an own goal in the 38th minute.
Senior Aaron Liezert (Medina/Medina) had a chance to even the game on a penalty kick but was turned away by Capital goalie Justin Niswonger in the 44th minute where we went into halftime with Capital up 1-0.
The second half was not much cleaner as we saw three more yellows and a red card. Senior Kevin Blackley (Aurora/Aurora) scored his fifth goal of the season to tie the game in the 68th minute off an assist from Dages.
With the Raiders down a man because of the red card in the 74th minute, Mount Union struggled to get into the offensive zone until Dages scored the game-winner.
Sophomore goalie Zach Hlas (Medina/Medina) played all 90 minutes for Mount Union and had five saves on the night.
The Raiders will welcome the Muskies of Muskingum to Mount Union Stadium on Tuesday, October 17th at 7:30 p.m.
