Men's Soccer: Belz and Dages Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Mount Union senior Stephen Dages (Uniontown/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) and sophomore Brian Belz (North Royalton/North Royalton) have been named to the 2017 Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Dages is a Religious Studies major with a 3.93 grade point average who is a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection. He started in all 17 games for the Purple Raiders and led the team in goals with six and assists with five.

Belz, who scored a goal on the season, was part of a defense that allowed just 17 goals in 17 games on the season. Off the pitch, he is a Finance and Accounting major with a 3.96 GPA.

Mount Union went 8-8-1 and finished tied for sixth in the OAC this past season.

Both players advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

To be selected Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average. Academic All-District First Team selections advance to the national Academic All-American ballot.

Sports Information Directors within a district vote for the Academic All-District teams with members of the CoSIDA Academic All-American committee voting on the national ballot. District VII includes every NCAA Division III institutions in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports
