NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.—Mount Union's men's soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season after defeating Westminster (Pa.) 2-0 in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon from New Wilmington, Pa.
Mount Union started the match with constant pressure from the offensive front. The Raiders outshot the Titans in the first half 10-3. Five minutes before the intermission break, junior Jon Schroeder (Parma/Normandy) found the back of the net off a free kick from 30 yards out to start the Raider scoring. Junior Zach Hlas (Medina/Medina) made only one save in the first half.
Mount Union picked up where the previous half left off as sophomore Colton Priester (Painesville/Riverside) collected his first goal of the season striking the left side of the net from 15 yards out to double the Raider lead.
Both sides tallied four shots in the second half while junior Zach Hlas (Medina/Medina) recorded two saves on the way to collecting his third shutout of the season. Senior Scott Welker (Solon/Solon) and junior Jon Schroeder (Parma/Normandy) led the Raiders in shots with three along with junior Josh Lewis (Elyria/Elyria), senior Jesse Tinney (Heidelberg, Pa./Chartiers Valley), and sophomore Colton Priester (Painesville/Riverside) all finished with two shots.
Mount Union returns home on Saturday, September 15 as they welcome Hiram to Mount Union Stadium. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
