Men’s Soccer: Mount Union Takes Down Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio-- Mount Union men's soccer posted its fifth straight shutout victory with a 3-0 win over Defiance Sunday afternoon.

Rylan Wikle (Olmsted Falls) netted two goals, Colton Priester (Painesville/Riverside) collected his third goal of the season while Zach Hlas (Medina) charted his fifth shutout as the Purple Raiders improved their record to 5-0 overall. It is the best start of a season for Mount Union since 1985 (7-0).

Defiance falls to 1-5 with the defeat.

Wikle scored his first colligate goal in the 22nd minute to give Mount Union a 1-0 halftime advantage.

Wikle tallied his second goal off a rebound in the penalty area to continue the Raider scoring in the second half.

Priester recorded his third goal on the season in the 63rd minute.

The Raider defense has not allowed a goal in 464:24 minutes of play this season and 503:10 of action dating back to last season.

Mount Union next plays Friday, September 21 in a non-conference game against Geneva (Pa.) in Mount Union Stadium. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
