INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Mount Union's men's soccer team is ranked seventh in the first NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Ranking of the season.
The regional rankings are used to help determine teams, seeds and game locations for the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.
The tournament is made of a 62-team field and in that field are 42 conference champions earning automatic bids, one bid is reserved for independents along with 19 national at-large bids.
The Ohio Athletic Conference is one of those 42 conferences and it awards that automatic bid to the champion of the OAC Tournament.
Mount Union is currently 10-2 overall and at 3-2 in the OAC sits in third place.
The two teams tied for first in the OAC with 4-1 records -- Capital and John Carroll -- are also ranked third and sixth in the region respectively.
There will be two more regional rankings each of the next two weeks with the NCAA Tournament field being announced at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 5.
The NCAA Tournament begins with first round games on Saturday, November 10.
