AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Mount Union senior Zach Hlas (Medina) was named Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year to headline the All-OAC teams selected by the conference's 10 head coaches.
Hlas was one of three Purple Raiders named to the All-OAC first team along with fellow defenders in senior Jon Schroeder (Parma / Normandy) and junior Austin Overy (Perrysburg) while senior Josh Lewis (Elyria) was an All-OAC second team selection.
Hlas played every minute of the season in goal and allowed only 14 goals in 19 games with 57 saves. He was named OAC Goalkeeper of the Week five different weeks this season. He is the second-ever Raider to win the OAC Goalkeeper of the Year award and finishes his career with records for shutouts in a season (10 in 2018) and career (23) along with goals against average in a season (0.54 in 2018) and a career (0.73). It is his third all-conference honor as he was a second teamer in 2018 and an honorable mention pick in 2017.
Schroeder started all 19 games this season and led the team in goals (5) and assists (5). He ends his career with 15 goals and 15 assists. It is also his third time on the all-conference team as he was a second team pick 2018 and honorable mention in 2017.
Overy, an honorable mention selection last year, helped lead Mount Union's "Purple Wall" defense that was second in the conference in goals against average (0.69). He played in 18 games his season and scored two goals.
Lewis started all 19 games with three goals, including one game-winner, and two assists. A second team selection last year, he wraps up his career with five goals and five assists with three game-winning goals.
Mount Union ended its season with a record of 10-4-5 overall and 4-2-3 in the OAC. It marked the fourth time in school history the Raiders put together back-to-back double digit win seasons.
