Brocious Wins 200 Backstroke; Men's Swimming Third at OAC Championships

AKRON,Ohio—Junior Rob Brocious (Mentor/Mentor) won the OAC title in the 200 backstroke and led Mount Union to a third place finish at the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming Championships at The University of Akron.

Brocious also teamed up with freshman Hayden Birnbrich (Pataskala/Columbus St. Charles Prep), sophomore Mike Zappa(Shelby/Shelby) and junior Mike Greisl (South Euclid/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) to finish second, earn All-OAC honors and set a school-record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:08.20).

For the weekend Brocious claimed all-conference honors in five total events as he also placed second in both the 400 IM, 500 Free and in the 400 medley relay with Zappa, Greisl and Brian Ruhe (Versailles/Versailles).

Ruhe also got an all-conference honor with a third in the 200 breaststroke.

Ohio Northern won the title with 1,036 points with John Carroll in second (693), Mount Union (528) in third with Baldwin-Wallace 311, Wilmington 277, and Defiance 51 finishing the six team field.
