BEREA, Ohio - - Mount Union men's swim team won its sixth straight meet with a 141-93 victory over Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference swim meet, Saturday (Dec. 8) afternoon in the BW Natatorium.
With the win, Mount Union men's swimming and diving team moves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the OAC on the season, while Baldwin Wallace falls to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Freshman Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) was part of two first place relays, the 200 yard medley (1:43.35) and the 200 free (1:30.95), and also placed first in the 200 free (1:47.72).
The 200 medley relay was comprised of: sophomore Brian Ruhe (Versailles/Versailles), junior Mike Zappa (Shelby/Shelby) and senior Rob Brocious (Mentor/Mentor) and the 200 free relay was comprised of: junior Austin Moreland (Dover/New Philadelphia), senior Mike Greisl (South Euclid/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and Brocious.
Mike Zappa placed first in the shortest event of the afternoon, 50 free (22.87) and teammate freshman Andrew Oktavec (Brunswick/Brunswick) took first place in the longest even, the 1000 free (10:50.41).
Greisl and Brocious finished first in their respective events, the 100 free (50.19) and 100 back (56.06) respectively.
Sophomore Joe Simpson (Hudson/Walsh Jesuit) finished the 500 yard free (5:13.81) in first place.
Mount Union's next meet will be when they head down to Florida for winter training and head down to Melbourne, Florida to swim Florida Tech January 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
