Men’s Swimming And Diving Falls At Home To No. 20 Ohio Northern
ALLIANCE, Ohio - - Men's Swimming and Diving lost 150-91 to No. 20 Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference meet Saturday in the Hammond Natatorium.
With the win, Ohio Northern remains perfect on the year with an 8-0 overall record and 4-0 in the OAC, while Mount Union falls to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
This was the first loss at home this season for the Purple Raiders this season.
Senior Rob Brocious (Mentor/Mentor) swam three events on the afternoon, finishing first in both the 500 (5:00.61) and the 1000 yard freestyle (10:24.93), and swam backstroke in the 400 yard medley relay (3:42.59) that finished in second placed and was comprised of sophomores Joe Simpson (Hudson/Walsh Jesuit) who swam butterfly, Brian Ruhe (Versailles/Versailles) who swam breaststroke and freshman Logan Rogers (Hartville/Archbishop Hoban) who swam freestyle.
Freshman Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) took first place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:49.26), second in the 500 free (5:02.19) and swam the second leg in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:31.50) that finished in second place and was comprised of senior Mike Greisl (South Euclid/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) who swam the anchor leg, junior Mike Zappa (Shelby/Shelby) who swam the third leg, and sophomore Hayden Birnbrich (Pataskala/Columbus St. Charles Prep) who swam leadoff.
The Raiders next meet is this Friday when they host Wooster at 5:30 p.m. in the Hammond Natatorioum.
