Men's Swimming and Diving Defeats Wilmington Saturday

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team defeated Wilmington 148-113 in an Ohio Athletic Conference meet Saturday afternoon at the Hammond Natatorium in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders had seven different swimmers took first place finishes; Tyler Moore (Amherst Steele/Amherst) took first place finishes in three individual events, 200-yard freestyle (1:03.29), the 100-yard freestyle (49.76), and the 200-yard IM (1:31.27).

Also taking first place honors, were Takunda Mafundikwa (Atlanta, Ga./Marist) who took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.78) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.98). Joe Simpson (Husdon/Walsh Jesuit) took first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.24), Mike Zappa (Shelby/Shelby) swam a 22.59 in the 50-yard freestyle and Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) took first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.45.

In relay action the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Rundell, Austin Moreland (Dover/New Philadelphia),  Moore and M. Zappa took first with a time of 1:31.27.

Mount Union (8-2) travels to Ada next Friday, January 24 for their final conference meet at 6 pm against Ohio Northern.
